Bronwyn Bancroft’s love and respect for her Country shines in Coming Home to Country. There are few words in this book – a sentence per page – but they are carefully chosen words and I got goosebumps more than once. As Bancroft explores her Country’s ancient history – the colours, the smells and the sounds – you really feel it all as you read. On one page she lies on her back to watch the clouds skirmish and ‘feasts on the poetry of each intricate image’. I immediately wanted to put the book down and go outside to do the same. The illustrations are everything we’ve come to expect from Bancroft, they are stunning and true representations of Country and its spirit, bright and bold, and delicate and intricate all at once.

Now, more than ever, we need to consider our connection to the land we stand upon all too briefly and leave to those who will follow after us. Coming Home to Country is perfect for helping us to do just that. For ages 2+.
