To accompany the exhibition PETER BOOTH, TarraWarra Museum of Art has published a major new 132-page hardback publication which is richly illustrated with many of the artworks featured in the exhibition and includes a Director’s foreword, two original new essays, an artist biography and exhibition checklist.

The essay by Kirsty Grant offers important insights into the early period of Booth’s exhibiting career, charting the artist’s fascinating transition from one of the leading abstractionists of his generation to a painter of a powerful expressive figuration in the late 1970s.

Anthony Fitzpatrick’s curatorial essay explores the recurrent motifs, subjects and moods which have become distinctive hallmarks of his Booth’s expansive body of figurative works. By considering these aspects of Booth’s practice, the artists and authors who have inspired him, and the insightful observations of critics, writers and curators who have appraised his work over several decades, this essay reveals a complex artist who has an extraordinary capacity to transmute his deep-seated apprehension over a number of pressing contemporary concerns into exceptional and deeply compelling paintings and drawings.

This publication has been released to coincide with the current exhibition PETER BOOTH, curated by Anthony Fitzpatrick, at TarraWarra Museum of Art.
