Plant kin builds upon and continues the explorations of The Soils Project exhibition at TarraWarra Museum of Art. Author, artist, researcher and plant enthusiast Zena Cumpston (Barkandji) has created this publication which explores many aspects of indigenous plants and their cultural significance in the lives of First Peoples over millennia. Plant kin presents research and writing beautifully illuminated through original artworks created especially for this limited-edition publication.

Whilst focusing on plants important to cultural landscapes and biodiversity across Naarm, the plants showcased in Plant kin have a widespread importance and application right across south-eastern Australia and beyond. Presenting plants through a cultural lens, this booklet invites us all into a more intimate relationship with our plant kin, and into a deeper and more connected relationship with Country. By encouraging care and highlighting our shared responsibility to act as custodians of Country we call home, this offering will prompt you to learn, to grow, to carefully watch, and to (hopefully) come into a deeper relationship with, the lands you live upon.
